Night Predator

As the darkness invaded my backyard, I heard uncommon noises. I turned off the lights in the room and slowly crept to the side of the big bay window. My alarm was not on.

I had read about recent burglaries on NextDoor, the neighborhood app. Was one in progress? The burglars should have known someone was home. Why was he or she so bold?

I slowly got closer to the window, yet making sure to not make any noise or alert our burglar. I couldn’t see much. One of the low-hanging branches moved. I quickly moved back, making sure to be quiet. Did the intruder inadvertently bump into it?

I kept motionless, lest he decided to shoot at my window. The noise stopped. I moved back closer to the window. A small shape formed as if it were a small child. I got my binoculars and looked. Oh! Crap! I had it the wrong way. I slowly turned them around, making sure to be very quiet and looked.

A furry face looked me straight in the eyes. It was our friendly raccoon that my wife fed. She had called him Rudy. He wiggled his nose and went directly for the dish full of seeds. Guess we had a satisfied customer. I learned not to believe everything one reads on NextDoor.

I hope you enjoyed our little adventure.
